Suboxone
- Suboxone (buprenorphine and naloxone) is a prescription medicine used to treat opioid addiction in adults, as part of a comprehensive treatment program.
- Suboxone is a sublingual film, dissolving into your body via membranes in the mouth.
- The medication works by blocking the opioid receptors in the brain, but without activating the receptors, which would create a high.
- Suboxone is a scientifically proven effective medication at treating opioid use disorder when used in accordance with doctors orders and in concert with individual therapy.
Sublocade
- Sublocade (buprenorphine) is partial opioid agonist, provided through a restricted program called Sublocade REMS Program.
- Sublocade is administered through a monthly injection and is designed to be slowly released into the blood stream.
- With each monthly injection, patients also receive and individual counseling session with a trained professional.
- Buprenorphine works by binding to opioid receptors, but does not create a high, allowing patients to get used to living without the drug until they can ween of Sublocade.
Subutex
- Subutex (buprenorphine) is a sublingual tablet administered once daily.
- Subutex is the preferred medication for induction of opioid dependent patients to medication assisted treatment.
- Once induction has been completed, most patients will switch to either Suboxone or Sublocade. Subutex can continue to be used for patients who are intolerant of naloxone.
- As with all opioid treatments, individual counseling is required for all patients in our programs.
